Under the direct supervision of the Manager of Faculty Technology Services for Academic Technology, and the general direction of the Assistant Vice President for Academic Technology, the Faculty Technology Development Specialist is responsible for the development and maintenance of the Faculty Technology Development program within Academic Technology. This individual will develop and oversee a program for faculty technology development. The program will include technology training materials and training classes, "new media" development and mobile distribution, gathering and evaluating information from departments and faculty focus groups to determine the direction of the program, and hosting lectures and conferences with faculty from other institutions. Through the creation and maintenance of such a program, this individual will ensure that faculty develops the necessary technological skills to accomplish all curricular goals.

This individual will also focus on the impact that teaching and learning with technology has here at the college, developing methods and making recommendations as to how the college can effectively continue to integrate technology into teaching.

Required Skills
  1. BA preferred (BA in music a plus), minimum 1-3 years of computer support experience and a minimum of 3 years of technology training experience at an educational institution or equivalent.
  2. Training and presenting experience in a classroom setting.
  3. Experience in creating training and development materials of all types including handouts, digital documents, rich media, online resources, screencasts, podcasts, and others.
  4. Specialized knowledge of current technology training and development methodologies and models.
  5. A broad understanding of the functions and operations of desktop/laptop computers, peripherals, and software used at the college in order to provide faculty with relevant and effective training and development.
  6. Specialized knowledge of a wide variety of software products in the Apple and Windows environments, including but not limited to: audio and MIDI recording, editing, sequencing, and notation applications; virtual instruments, audio editing plug-ins, sampler, sample editors, and sample libraries; spreadsheets, word processing, database, organizational, and personal information management applications; graphics, page layout, web authoring, media creation, screencast, webcast, and cloud computing applications; e-mail, calendaring, web-browsing, FTP, and file-sharing applications; video editing, recording, and encoding applications; operating systems and some terminal emulation.
  7. General knowledge of Learning Management Systems, with specific knowledge of the college's LMS and portal system.
  8. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to foster collaboration between this position and college faculty, staff, and students.
  9. Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  10. The ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, with self-direction, while remaining calm under pressure to meet deadlines.
  11. Excellent writing skills, both business and technical.
  12. Good phone skills.
  13. The ability to learn existing and emerging computer technologies quickly.
  14. The ability to research, identify, and learn emerging and pertinent technologies that will allow the college continue to effectively integrate technology into its teaching.
Experience Required
  1. Develops and oversees the Faculty Technology Development Program in Academic Technology: creates training materials, develops and schedules training classes, explores and authors "new media" resources for faculty development, investigates and utilizes mobile media distribution, and arranges lectures and conferences with outside institutions.
  2. Promotes a positive and collaborative relationship between Technology Resources and Academic Affairs.
  3. Actively promotes and advances the Faculty Technology Development program within the college.
  4. Works in close partnership with the Office of Faculty Development to ensure that Academic Affairs technology development needs are being addressed.
  5. Works in close partnership with department Chairs and division Deans to ensure faculty technology needs are being addressed.
  6. Creates, develops, and oversees a training and development asset repository for materials and media used in faculty technology development.
  7. Gathers and evaluates information from departments, faculty focus groups, Academic Affairs, and administrators to determine the course and shape of the Faculty Technology Development Program for AT.
  8. Maintains a focus on the impact teaching with technology is having at the college: gathers information; reports on, develops methods and makes recommendations as to how the college can effectively continue to integrate technology into teaching.
  9. Creates and maintains relationships with outside institutions: hosts lectures and conferences, shares information and ideas, investigates faculty development programs at other institutions.
  10. Works cooperatively and shares knowledge freely with other trainers and development specialists throughout the college.
  11. Works cooperatively with I/T staff, Learning Resources staff, and Divisional and Area Distributed Support staff.
  12. Creates and maintains a Faculty Technology Development website using rich media, "new media", and mobile distribution to effectively provide access to technology development resources.
  13. Stays current with existing and emerging computer technologies.
  14. Investigates and stays current with emerging faculty technology development techniques and teaching with technology models.
  15. Other duties as assigned.
