(Memphis)The family of two-year-old Carl Oliver is heartbroken after the toddler was hit by a car during a family gathering Saturday night.

Memphis Police said the toddler ran between two cars into the street where he was hit by 45-year-old Sonja Morgan. Morgan is a distant relative of the toddler.

Family said Carl was taken to Le Bonheur Children?s Hospital where he died.

Carl?s great-grandmother Verline Brown said that she was inside her house in the 3300 block of Warford when the boy was hit outside around 7:00 Saturday night.

?They said the baby was run over. They was all boo-hooing and crying,? said Brown, who said more than 50 family members were gathered at her home Saturday night.

?I don?t know why he was by himself going across the street,? said Brown.

Carl?s grandfather William Brown said when he got to the home, before the ambulance, that family had already covered the boy?s body with a sheet.

?He wasn?t breathing, he wasn?t moving,? said Brown.

Sunday family remembers the boy who they say was a typical active two-year-old.

?Everybody is going to miss him because he was always, if he knows your name, he?s going to call it and speak to you,? said Verline.

Memphis Police say Morgan was still on scene when they arrived. She was ticketed for not having insurance.
