Community leaders go back to school

Community leaders now have the opportunity to go back to school and learn more about Lexington County School District One.

The Lexington One Educational Foundation Ambassadors Program gives participants an up close and personal look at the learning taking place in Lexington One schools.

Ambassadors visit a Lexington One school where they learn about the district?s mission and vision, current building plan, the district?s Schools of the Future ? Now! initiative, world language programs and much more.

?The foundation established the program to help our community members become more familiar with our schools and to gain a better understanding of their importance to the community,? said Connie McFarland, executive director of the foundation.

The inaugural class of Ambassadors visited Pleasant Hill Elementary during the first semester of the 2011?2012 school year. The class included John Farley, meteorologist with WIS; Mike Flack, owner of Mike Flack and Associates; Terrence Green, police chief of Town of Lexington; Randy Halfacre, mayor of Town of Lexington and president/CEO of Greater Lexington Chamber of Commerce; and Edna Langley, owner of McDonald?s of Columbia.

The second class of Ambassadors visited Pleasant Hill Elementary in January. Members included Tod Augsburger, chief operating officer of Lexington Medical Center; Valerie Baldwin, president of Restoring Hope Ministries; Denise ?Dee? Bedenbaugh, president of Lexington County Public Library System; Fran Halloran, CEO/owner of Halloran Agency/Horace Mann of Lexington; Mark Mancuso, senior branch librarian at the Lexington Main Branch Library; Kathy Maness, executive director of Palmetto State Teachers Association; Ted McGee, president of McGee Real Estate Company; Sonya Motes, vice president with Merrill Lynch; Peter Sutton, site plant manager at Michelin North America Lexington Site; and Chuck Whipple, economic development director for Lexington County.
